This week we had to the opportunity to go farming with Ze, one of the people we are teaching. We left at 7:30 so that we could get there by 8 before it is too hot. She gave us our gloves and hoes and we got right to work. Elder Giddings and I made it a goal to get all of her garden done before we left. By the time we finished, we were exhausted and sweating really bad. It was really fun and it was worth it because of how grateful Ze was.
A quick funny story. There was a plant that looked like a weed, but I couldn't tell so I asked Ze if I should leave it or keep it. She said tseg cia which means to leave it there, but I thought she said tshem kiag which means to get rid of it. So I got my hoe and I killed that plant. Her face was so funny afterward. Oh well - I tried my best.
We also were able to go visit Ze and teach her a lesson this week as well. Before we did she helped us learn some more green moob. I learned something recently that in white hmoob they say the r constant, but in green moob they say more of ts constant. So, for example, the number 6 in white hmoob would be rau, but in green moob it would be tsau. Kinda interesting and cool that I can slowly start to understand the green moob dialect better every week haha.
Anyways we read the picture Book of Mormon with her which I really like because it is easier for them to understand with the visual of the pictures. We read the chapter of the first vision and also the chapter about the Book of Mormon. She seemed to understand it all really well and said she would pray about it all. So we are excited!
We also had a lesson with my Boi Vince. I love Vince he is so funny, fun to talk to, and also is very sincerely seeking for truth. When we went over there, he fed us some Hmong catfish soup which was surprisingly pretty good. After we finished eating we had a good discussion on the plan of Salvation. He knows there is higher power because of the world around us. So many crazy things like birds making perfectly twined nest, trees sprouting in unison every year, phones, Bluetooth, etc. It all testifies to him, and also to me, that God is our creator. It is kinda fun to look around and look at the beauty of God's creations. It is beautiful and amazing to look at. It is also crazy to think about everything that has been created and everything we have all comes from this tiny planet of ours. I think it is really cool to think about.
After we were done teaching the lesson Vince brought up one of his concerns. He said he has always been scared to get baptized. He never has been baptized because he knows it's a big commitment and a big promise to God. He fears breaking that promise and not being able to fulfill that promise because he said if he got baptized he would stop everything smoking, swearing, alcohol, etc. To help him out we shared a verse from the New Testament in Matthew, chapter, 11 verses 28-30.
28 ¶ Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
I love the symbolism of this scripture. We, just like an ox, we have such a hard time pulling our weight (out burdens, trials, hard times, etc.) by ourselves, but lucky for us is we have a best friend in the Savior by our sides at all times helping us to lift the burdens and struggles of life. He will never leave our side. He is always by our side. Helping us to feel peace in knowing that our burdens can be light if we allow him to help us.
Love, Elder Rich
